Son Of A Gun

from Life Of A Building Downtown by CA Smith

lyrics

Martha had eyes
A deep shade of blue.
Unfortunately, that’s
The way she felt too.
She was a friend
To me and to you.
Admired but always so tired.

Scott wasn’t sure
Why he felt so sad.
Surely these thoughts
Aren’t meant to be had.
When the feeling started,
Thought it was a fad.
I guess he’ll never know.

Steve said, “Don’t sweat
You’ll beat it I bet.”
Ali said, “Pet,
It’s normal, don’t fret.”
Paul said, “That’s life.
You’ll find a new wife.”

Mum said, “It’s fine,
You’ll get back in line.”
Dad said, “Don’t wine,
It’s a matter of time.”
Grandma said, “Why?
You’re such a great guy!”

Gordon was good.
He also was kind.
He wanted to see it
But he was blind.
His friends and his folks
Couldn’t see the signs.
Hindsight is a son of a gun.
